Fire Weather Watch Issued For Mother Lode

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for both the Mother Lode from 1000 through 3000 feet and the Stanislaus National Forest from Sunday morning through Monday evening.

An upper level low pressure system will approach California on Sunday and Monday.

This type of weather pattern has historically brought widespread lightning to northern California. Thunderstorms will initially form over the mountains Sunday afternoon then develop across the valleys Sunday night with widespread lightning possible.

This means that scattered thunderstorms with abundant lightning are expected from Sunday afternoon into Monday.

Gusty winds of up to 30 mph are possible.
