Matelot Reservoir Expansion

T.U.D. is completing a reservoir expansion project that is in response to the drought.

The Matelot Reservoir is being expanded so that it can increase its volume from 6 acre ft. of water to 26.2 acre ft. It will provide the Columbia area with about three additional weeks of water supply.

T.U.D. General Manager Tom Scesa says, “This was a critical project for the District, and one we thought was necessary to help us to continue to supply water to the Columbia area during the drought, and also ensure a water supply to the CAL Fire Air Attack Base.”

T.U.D. is in the process of securing state funding in the amount of $270K to cover the costs of the project. The project construction, which has taken about six weeks, is currently wrapping up.

T.U.D. crews also had to remove approximately 16,830 cubic yards of sludge from the existing reservoir to expand the total volume.
