Nearly $115,000 In Grants

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Area Foundation has awarded grants to aid firefighters, a theatre and to preserve history.

The money will go to support local fire departments training, core programs at Sierra Repertory Theatre and preservation of historic records.

Here is a list of the total grants awarded:

• A $60,000 grant to the Tuolumne County Fire Chief’s Association to help purchase a fire ventilation simulation training trailer.  The trailer will have multiple uses for training in horizontal and vertical ventilation, forcible entry, rope rescue, or ladder operations.  The trailer will be housed and maintained by the Twain Harte Fire and Rescue.
• A $30,000 grant to Sierra Repertory Theatre was awarded to assist with a variety of community and youth outreach efforts over the next 12 months.
• A $7,400 grant to the County of Tuolumne, on behalf the Carlo M. De Ferrari Archive Center, awarded by the Foundation and the Marjorie L. Coffill Charitable Fund, to allow for conversion to digital format of 185,000 index cards prepared by Mr. De Ferrari.  The index cards contain detailed notes about early pioneers, events, businesses and locations.
• A $2,000 grant to buy gifts for the “Visiting Hospitalized Veterans” organization.  The group provides gifts and makes visits to veterans in assisted living facilities throughout Tuolumne County.
• A $5,000 grant to the Tuolumne County Historical Society for the “88 Days in the Mother Lode: Mark Twain Finds His Voice”.  The money will support their efforts to accurately tell the story about Mark Twain’s short stay in Tuolumne County.
• A $10,000 grant to the Tuolumne County, on behalf of the Carlo M. De Ferrari Archives Center, to add two moveable shelving units at the center.  These units will provide storage for historical books currently being stored at the Recorder’s Office.
