Vehicle VS. Pedestrian In Sonora

Sonora, CA — A Sonora man was injured after being struck by a car while crossing a downtown street.  The accident happened around 8 am on Wednesday on Church Street near Barretta Street.

Sonora Police say 47-year-old Staci Criswell of Sonora was driving a 2004 Hyundai eastbound on Church Street at about 25 mph when she hit 51-year-old Thomas Belcher who was crossing the roadway.  Belcher, using a cane, had crossed three quarters of the roadway when Criswell’s car struck him. Police say Criswell told officers the sun was in her eyes and she did not see Belcher until the last second.

Belcher suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center for treatment.
