Hunters Fire Evacuations Update

Mariposa, CA — Fire season has arrived early in the region.

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Hunters Valley Road in Mariposa County due to the 500 acre Hunters Fire. The order also encompasses Hunters Valley Access Road and Detwiler Road.

The American Red Cross Evacuation Center is located at McCay Hall, at 2820 Highway 140 in Catheys Valley. A domestic animal shelter is also set up at that site thanks to the Central California Animal Disaster Team.

The fire started at around 3:30pm and quickly put 100 nearby homes in danger.

Several fire resources from all across the region have been dispatched to the fire, and they are dealing with very dry conditions for this early in the season.
