Economy Jump Starts Holiday Travel

Sonora, CA – More of you will be hitting the roads this Memorial Day weekend. AAA Travel projects 36.1 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home, which is a 1.5% increase from last year.  Also, more than eight in ten travelers will be driving to their destinations.

AAA expects the volume of travel to reach a new post-recession high with 36.1 million Americans taking a trip this weekend.  In addition to warmer temperatures, a key factor in the jump is the economy.

Marshall L. Doney AAA Chief Operating Officer says,  “As the economy continues to improve at a slow and steady pace consumer spending, disposable income, consumer confidence and the employment outlook are trending up which is welcomed news for the travel industry.”

AAA says 31.8 million or 80% of the public will travel by automobile, an increase from 31.4 million last year. How much will it cost to fill-up at the pump?  In Sonora, the average price per gallon of regular is $3.99. In San Andreas, it is $3.95.  You can find out local gas prices anytime by going to the myMotherlode.com home page and click on traffic then gas prices.
