Sonora, CA – Forest Officials will hold an open house to update the public on the Rim Fire Recovery efforts. The goal is to share information about the Rim Fire Recovery Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).
Forest Officials say the Rim Recovery project involves salvaging and removing hazardous trees, reducing fuels, and enhance wildlife habitat. Forest Service personnel will be on hand to answer questions regarding the recovery efforts.
“Public involvement and engagement has been crucial to our success in bringing the DEIS to this point in a remarkably short time,” said Maria Benech a Rim Fire Recovery Team Leader. “I want to be certain that we give everyone with an interest in this landscape the opportunity to participate in the process that will move us forward”.
The open house will be at the Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor’s office conference room on Thursday, May 22 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The office address is 19777 Greenley Road, Sonora.
The Rim Fire started on August 17, 2013 and burned 257,000 acres. 154,430 of those acres were on National Forest System lands. The Rim fire is the third largest wildfire in California history.
