Gas Leak Residents Evacuated

Crystal Falls, CA — Emergency crews are on the scene of a gas leak in Crystal Falls and residents are being evacuated.

Cal Fire reports a tree has fallen on a 250-gallon propane tank on the 16000 block of Creekside Drive.  The impact broke a 3/4 inch gas line. Residents in 10 homes are being evacuated.  There is no estimated time as to when the gas line will be fixed and the residents will be allowed back in their homes.

Update 7 p.m.: Cal Fire reports it is a JS West propane tank.  Cal Fire says the tree knocked the tank off its platform and it slid down into the Twain Harte Creek.  California Fish and Game has been notified.

Update 8:20 p.m.: Cal Fire says some “product” leaked into the Twain Harte Creek, but the much of the leak has been stopped.   A JS West propane crew is on scene.

Update 8:45 p.m.:  Cal Fire says the leak is stopped and as soon as the JS West crew gives the okay, residents will be allowed back in their homes.

Update 9:10 p.m.:  Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Officials report the leak is stopped and residents can return to their homes.
