Sierra Club Clarifies Logging Position

Sacramento, CA — The Sierra Club has reversed its position on Rim Fire salvage logging claiming a breakdown in communication.  The Mother Lode chapter says a letter sent last week by the Yosemite Stanislaus Solutions (YSS) to USDA Regional Forester Randy Moore does not reflect the groups view.  The YSS’ letter was in support of Rim Fire salvage logging and was signed by 20 groups including the Tuolumne Group Sierra Club.  The Mother Lode chapter stresses that is not consistent with the club’s position and sent its own letter to Moore clarifying the club’s stance.  That letter states, “The Sierra Club is not supporting any level of Rim Fire salvage logging, with the exception of appropriate removal of hazardous trees.”

The Yosemite Stanislaus Solutions group is chaired by Mike Albrecht of the Tuolumne County Alliance for Resources and the Environment (TuCare) and John Buckley of the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center (CSERC).
