Vandals Caught In Calaveras County

Arnold, CA — Tips led to two minors responsible for vandalizing a veteran’s memorial tree.   The tree in White Pines Park in Arnold was planted in memory of fallen Marine Lance Corporal Gavin Brummund.  On April 6, the tree was found up-rooted and thrown onto the roof of a park bathroom.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s Sgt. Anthony Eberhardt says, “A deputy learned that juveniles were responsible for the removal of the tree. The juveniles were not aware the tree was planted for the local fallen Marine and were remorseful. The juveniles were cited for the vandalism and released to their parents.”

In June 2010, Lcpl. Brummund, an Arnold native, was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
