Wet Weather Eases Drought

Sacramento, CA — The recent spring storms have shortened the list of rural communities on the state’s water risk list due to the drought.

In February, 17 rural water systems were on the California Department of Public Health’s list of communities in danger of running out of water within 60-100 days.  The wet weather has dropped that number to three.

Still on the list in the Mother Lode region is the Whispering Pines Apartments in Mariposa County, which serves 55 customers.  Health officials say that system has less than a two months water supply.

The total customers for all three at-risk rural water systems are more the 5,500.  The Public Health Department is working with the districts to implement water conservation measures.
