Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors will vote whether to allow the Miner’s Bean Kettle building to be dismantled.
The Big Oak Flat building is owned by the Southern Tuolumne County Historical Society, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built around 1870 and has been used as a residence, Post Office and restaurant. The County has received a letter on behalf of the Southern Tuolumne County Historical Society stating that the building has deteriorated beyond repair, and it is not safe to enter. It is located at 17544 Highway 120.
The building would likely be dismantled and stored off-site by the group.
The Supervisors will also vote whether to send a letter to the House of Representatives Natural Resources Committee requesting a full Congressional Hearing about what can be learned from the 2013 Rim Fire, and how to prevent similar wildfires in the future.
The Board will also vote whether to send a separate letter to U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack expressing disappointment in his recent correspondence to the Board of Supervisors related to the Rim Fire.
Tuesday’s meeting starts at 9am in the Supervisors meeting room.
