Fatal Crash Near Columbia

Columbia, CA — Emergency crews are on the scene of a fatal crash on Highway 49 in Tuolumne County.  The solo vehicle accident happened at 2:37 this afternoon near Flume Road, which is between Rawhide Road and Jamestown Road west of Columbia.

The CHP reports a vehicle went off the highway then hit a tree and a fence. There were reports a person was pinned inside the vehicle.  We will bring you more information as soon as it is available.

Update 3:15 p.m.: The CHP reports Highway 49 is not blocked and traffic is moving.  Tow crews are on the scene clearing away the debris, which is off the roadway.

Update 4:20 p.m.: The CHP reports Highway 49 is blocked as tow crews are removing the car.

Update: 4:30p.m.:  The CHP reports the car is towed and roadway is open.
