Track Prop 30 Spending

Sacramento, CA — There is a way to track the money going to state schools from the Prop 30 tax increases approved by voters in 2012.

Prop 30 was pushed by Governor Jerry Brown as a way to increase funding for state schools, and State Controller John Chiang’s office has created a website showing how much money is going to different schools. “This transparency tool was built to help taxpayers monitor every dollar raised, where it was allocated, and how it will be spent,” claimed Chiang.

Prop 30 increased personal income taxes on anyone making over $250K a year, and increased the state’s sales tax by a quarter-cent. The personal income tax hike is set to expire after seven years, and the sales tax is currently set to expire after four years.
