Preparing For June Primary

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Elections Office is gearing up for the June 3rd Primary Election.

County Clerk and Auditor Controller Debi Bautista says May 19th is the deadline to register to vote prior to the election. This primarily applies to anyone that has just moved in the county, or will be turning 18 prior to the election.

Bautista also notes that anyone that has not voted since before the 2008 election, will need to register again. Federal law requires that individuals that have not voted for an extended period be dropped from the voter rolls. It is done to remove people that have either died or moved out of state. Bautista notes that her office recently dropped 1,000 people from the county’s list.

Another item that has been keeping local election officials busy is a new requirement that all 58 California counties provide Spanish translation documents for all local races. In the past, the California Secretary of State’s Office has put out a Spanish translation for the State and Federal races. It is now the county’s responsibility to do a similar thing for local races.
