Groveland Crash Details

Groveland, CA — The CHP has released more information about a crash Saturday morning on Highway 120, east of Groveland.

The CHP reports that 59-year-old Paul Holt Jr. was driving a big rig truck with a flat bed trailer, and his trailer was fishtailing. The truck was westbound near Whites Gulch Road. The CHP reports he was going around 70 mph in a 55 mph zone. As he was going into a curve, the chains and load binders snapped, and a forklift came off the back of the trailer. The forklift hit a guardrail and rolled down an embankment. An oncoming Chevy 2500 became involved in the crash when it hit the big rig. Holt suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center. The driver and passengers in the other truck were not hurt. Fuel spilled from the big rig into a seasonal creek, so the Department of Fish and Game responded. Caltrans had to repair 396 ft. of damaged guardrail. There was traffic control on Saturday for approximately 12 hours while cleanup took place.

The CHP reports that several traffic related charges are pending against Holt. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
