Sacramento, CA — An Administrative law judge has called the money laundering violations by the brother “serious and deliberate” in his ruling. The judge says Dist. 14 Republican State Senator Tom Berryhill and his brother, Bill Berryhill, should be fined for illegally transferring money between their campaigns in 2008 when both were running for separate seats in the state Assembly.
Berryhill took the stand last November at the Fair Political Practices Commission administrative hearing in Sacramento and denied the money laundering charges. The judge made his decision on the case on January 31, but the finding was not released until yesterday. Also involved in the case, are the Stanislaus County and San Joaquin County Republican Central Committees.
Per the ruling documents, all are facing these fines payable to the Fair Political Practices Commission up to the following amounts:
In response to the decision, the Berryhill’s attorneys have filed papers disputing the judge’s recommendation. Tom Berryhill’s District 14 covers Tuolumne County.
