Brown Joins Gubernatorial Race

Sacramento, CA — Gov. Jerry Brown officially announced his plans to seek re-election.

He says, “At this stage of my life, I can say–without any hesitation–that I am prepared and excited to tackle these challenges and the many others that lay before us. In fact, there is nothing I would rather do.”

The Associated Press (AP) reports that Gov. Brown, a Democrat, has raised nearly $17 million toward his re-election campaign.

The two leading Republican candidates are Former U.S. Treasury official Neel Kashkari and Assemblyman Tim Donnelly. Kashkari reported to the AP he raised nearly $1 million during the first two weeks of his campaign. Assemblyman Donnelly, of the Twin Peaks area, reported raising $374,000 last year and spent all but $54,000. He has since collected another $55,000.

In California’s primary system, the top two vote getters will advance to the November general election, regardless of their political party.
