Donation Scams Rob Charities

Sonora, CA — Some tips to avoid scams related to charitable donations.

Executive Director of the Sonora Area Foundation, Ed Wyllie, speaks about scams in his newest blog here.

He says, “Following major disasters, it is common for scam artists to impersonate charities to obtain personal information and money from well-intentioned donors.”

Wyllie brings up an Internal Revenue Service consumer alert tips. Including
Don’t give or send cash. For security and tax record purposes, contribute by check, credit card or another way that provides documentation of the gift.”
