PD Warns Of Scam

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Police Department reports that some businesses are receiving fake billing statements from a fictitious company.

The scammers are using the name Yellow Book, which is not associated with the real company Yellowbook. The statement has a Myrtle Beach, SC address and a fake phone number. The Sonora PD warns that if you receive one of these statements, do not pay it. If you already gave bank or credit card information, make sure to contact your financial institution immediately. The PD reports that once the scammers obtain your account information, they often rapidly empty your account, or charge a large amount on your credit card.

The scam appears to be routed out of Canada, but they use U.S. information to make it look legit. The scam artists have been targeting both businesses and non-profits.
