T.U.D. Will Vote On Mandatory Conservation

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne Utilities District will decide whether to step-up water conservation measures.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Board will vote whether to transition from voluntary to mandatory conservation mode. Due to the record dry year, staff is recommending that the district strive to reduce water usage by 50%.

Some examples of the proposed mandatory measures include prohibiting the outdoor washing of vehicles, sidewalks, parking lots, and other hard surfaced areas. It would limit the amount of outdoor irrigation that can be conducted. New construction service applications would be limited to indoor water use only, and landscaping would need to be delayed until the restrictions are removed. Filling of new or existing swimming pools would be prohibited. Those found using “excessive” amounts of water could be subject to penalties and/or having water disconnected until the problem is remedied.
