Couple Arrested For Hashish

Valley Springs, CA — Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies stumble onto a drug bust after they conducted a welfare check at Valley Springs home.

Investigators say earlier this week, the employer of 24-year-old April Mazzanti asked deputies to make a welfare check at her home on the 2800 block of Hartvickson Lane. The employer told investigators Mazzanti had not shown up for work and he was concerned.

When deputies arrived at the house they found Mazzanti safe and sound at home. Deputies asked to take a look around the house and she let them inside.

Sgt. Chris Hewitt says, “The deputies noticed marijuana plants that had been processed and were hanging in one of the rooms in the house drying. They also noticed drug paraphernalia for making hashish. A couple of guns were found too.”

Also, in the house were her husband 30-year-old Joseph Allen Mazzani and the couple’s one-year-old and three-year-old children. The kids were taken into protective custody.

The couple is facing felony charges for drug manufacturing and child endangerment. Hewitt says the husband was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted person.
