Fire Suspect Could Be Tried As Adult

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office wants to try the arson suspect in the Sonora Elementary School fire as an adult. In a statement released by the D.A.’s office it states:

“The Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office takes the position that the 17 year old suspect is not fit for treatment in the juvenile justice system and should be tried as an adult. Such a prosecution cannot occur until the Superior Court in Tuolumne County makes specific findings and orders. The Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office will seek such findings and orders. Until those findings and orders are made, this case proceeds as any other juvenile matter with juvenile confidentiality protections.”
