Unemployment Rate Down Slightly

Sacramento, CA – The State’s unemployment rate decreased to 8.7 percent in September and was unchanged in October.

The numbers for September were delayed due to the 16-day government shut down. On Friday the California Employment Development Department (EDD) released both the September and October state numbers. California’s unemployment rate for the two months was down from 8.9 percent in August.


In the report , the EDD only released the October numbers for the counties. Tuolumne County’s rate during August was 8.7% and it did not budge in October. Calaveras County’s rate was 9.9% in August and dipped to 9.6% in October.


Sectors that posted the largest job declines were manufacturing and financial activities. Areas that posted job gains included transportation, utilities, health services, construction and hospitality.


The U.S. unemployment rate increased to 7.3 percent in October, up from 7.2 percent in September.
