Smoke On The Horizon

Sonora, CA — There is heavy smoke in the air near Twain Harte and Mi-Wuk Village off Highway 108, but don’t be alarmed because it is a prescribed burn. Several residents have asked us about the smoke, and as we reported last week, the Stanislaus National Forest is conducting the Crandall Understory burn.

A total of 280 acres will be burned off of Italian Bar Road south of Deer Creek and along Forest Road 3N24. Forest Service officials want to alert residents and motorists that drifting smoke may also be seen in the canyon during the early morning and evening hours for next several weeks. The fire was first lit this morning.
