County Votes On Kennedy Meadows

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors voted on what is believed to be the final item before taking ownership of the Kennedy Meadows property.

The county has been in talks with the Stewardship Council for several years about taking ownership of the resort property from PG&E.

“This has been a long time coming,” said Deputy County Administrator Daniel Richardson to the Supervisors. “Today we are actually proposing that you approve the grant deed, and acknowledge the baseline study that’s been prepared.”

The vote was 5-0. Leading up to the vote, Board Chair Randy Hanvelt called it a “historic moment.” Former Tuolumne County Supervisor Teri Murrison was in attendance and said the board needs to be accountable for keeping a balance between recreational opportunities and the maintaining of natural resources.

The property will be owned by the county and continue to be leased by the Bloom family.The vote today should be the final step before it moves into escrow. The county would receive the property as a donation resulting from a PG&E bankruptcy settlement.
