Unemployment Rate Goes Up

Sonora, CA — The unemployment rate edged up in the Mother Lode and statewide last month.

Tuolumne County’s rate during July was 9.2%, as opposed to 8.9% in June. Calaveras County’s rate was 10.4% last month, compared to an even 10% in June. Statewide, California’s rate increased from 8.5% to 8.7%.


Sectors that posted the largest job declines were construction, logging and government. Areas that posted job gains include manufacturing, trade, transportation and hospitality. The statistics were compiled by the California Employment Development Department.
