Elderly Woman’s Killer Denied Appeal

A federal appeals court refuses to review the case of a man who killed an elderly woman, then watched her T-V while she bled to death.

Now, Stephen Anderson is scheduled to be executed next month at San Quentin State Prison.

The US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today ruled Anderson´s trial attorney provided adequate defense and did not violate Anderson´s 6th Amendment right to a fair trial.

The 48-year-old, on death row for 20 years, has until Wednesday to ask for clemency from Governor Davis.

In 1980, Anderson robbed the San Bernardino home of Elizabeth Lyman, a retired 81-year-old piano teacher, after escaping from a Utah state prison.

He shot Lyman in the face then sat and watched her T-V and ate a dish of noodles while she bled to death.
