Governor Disappoints Farmers

Governor Gray Davis is disappointing farm groups by not making state agencies buy produce grown in California. The governor is promoting a 5 million dollar “Buy California” campaign. But he vetoed a bill to make state prisons and hospitals do exactly that even if it costs five percent more.

State farmers say the state should lead by example. But Davis says the bill would cost too much during a budget crisis.
