Holiday Deaths, DUI Low For Mother Lode

The California Highway Patrol reports that five people were killed in traffic collisions statewide during the Christmas Holiday. 384 people were arrested in connection with DUI citations.

Within the local region, Tom Wills with Jamestown CHP gives the statistics: “For the Central Division, we had one fatality and 58 DUI arrests.”

Wills says Mother Lode stats were low. “Nobody was killed and there was only one DUI arrest,” he said.

The CHP is beefing up patrols for New Year´s holiday. The agency says it´s planning to put every available officer on the road during the maximum enforcement period, which will continue through January first. The CHP says it will also set up checkpoints to catch drunk and drugged drivers.
