Ryder Needs Drug Counseling, DA Says

The prosecutor in the Winona Ryder shoplifting case is recommending the actress do 60 days of community service and get drug and psychiatric counseling.

Prosecutor Ann Rundle also recommends Ryder pay fines and restitution of more than 26-thousand dollars.

Ryder, who was convicted of grand theft and other charges in her recent shoplifting trial, will be sentenced Friday.

Rundle´s recommendations to the judge reveal for the first time that Ryder had eight kinds of pain-killers with her when she was arrested at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills a year ago. Among them were Demerol, Vicoden, Percodan and Valium. All eight had been prescribed for her.

The new filing says Ryder obtained the drugs from several physicians and used at least two names in getting them.
