New Fire Added To Sourgrass Complex

A new fire has been added to the Sourgrass complex burning in Calaveras County.

CDF Fire Captain Greg Grizzell says the new fire in the Blue Creek drainage is 15 miles east of West Point.

Steep terrain and heavy underbrush is hampering firefighting efforts. The new blaze posses NO immediate threat to the surrounding communities.

So far more than 630-acres have been burned. Suppression costs have topped $522,800.

About 558 firefighters are on the fires and will miss sharing a thanksgiving dinner with family this year. CDF kitchen crews from Growlersberg Camp will serve a traditional turkey dinner to firefighters at Frog Town in Angels Camp.

According to CDF, the complex fires were 80 percent contained as of last night.
