Attempted Rape Suspect In Custody

In a breaking story – Tuolumne County Sheriff’s deputies took Michael Shell into custody shortly after 9 a.m. this morning at Highway 108 and Tuolumne Road at the Christian Heights Church Thrift Store parking lot.

Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. John Steely says Shell, wanted for questioning in connection with attempted rape, false imprisonment and vehicle theft early this morning, was stopped by deputies. Shell was taken into custody without incident.

Steely says the suspect, 32 year-old Michael Shell, was released from Sierra Conservation Center yesterday and had allegedly assaulted and held the female victim against her will in her home around 1 a.m. this morning.

Steely says Shell hasn’t been booked yet, but he will be shortly.
