Modesto Woman Injured In Hit-and-Run

A Modesto woman was run over in a crosswalk by a hit-and-run driver and hospitalized with serious injuries Monday.

19-year-old Sarah Sunderman was leaving Modesto Junior College when she was hit in the lighted crosswalk on Tully Road. Police say Kimberly Popio, also 19, tried to stop but ran into Sunderman, leaving her with head injuries and a broken leg.

Popio left the scene on foot, and police arrested her in a nearby apartment on felony hit-and-run charges.

Sunderman was taken to Doctors Medical Center.
