Add Kirkwood and Squaw Valley to the list of Sierra ski areas that are taking advantage of a powerful storm this month followed by cool temperatures.
Kirkwood opened over the weekend and is offering six runs. Squaw has eight lifts scheduled to operate today.
They join Alpine Meadows, Boreal, Mount Rose, Soda Springs and Mammoth with limited skiing opportunities. Heavenly plans to open on Friday.
