The mountain passes are closed.
Caltrans crews went to the summits Ebbetts Pass, Sonora Pass and Tioga Pass Wednesday afternoon, telling motorists to turn back. When the crews were sure all the cars are off the main and side roads near the mountain summits, they close the gates, maybe for the winter.
Whether the passes reopen before spring will depend a lot on how much snow falls during this week’s storms.
