North Coast Tree-sitters Arrested

Two anti-logging activists have been arrested in yet another skirmish between Pacific Lumber and Humboldt County demonstrators.

A man and woman who refused to provide their names were arrested yesterday in Freshwater and booked for investigation of trespassing and interfering with a legal business.

The two sides disagree over the interpretation of a recent Superior Court ruling. Activists claim it orders the timber company to halt all logging operations. Pacific Lumber disagrees.

At least a dozen people are occupying trees on Pacific Lumber land in Freshwater. One – a woman calling herself Remedy – has been living in an ancient redwood for seven months.

Last week, several tree-sitters on Pacific Lumber land in the Mattole forest were pulled out of the trees and arrested because the trees they were in were to be cut down.
