Historic Sites Receive Funding Under Prop. 40

Seven Northern California cultural and historic sites will receive nearly 18 million dollars under Proposition 40. Proposition 40 sets up the state’s first dedicated bond fund for cultural and historic sites. State Resources Secretary Mary Nichols says the money will not only help restore the sites, but will also help communities by drawing tourist dollars.

Several of the projects link the natural and cultural environment. Three million dollars will go to build a Northern California Natural History Museum in Chico. Redding’s Turtle Bay Exploration Park museum will receive ten million dollars to continue its development. Another three million dollars will help create the Lake Oroville Historic-Cultural Trail.
