Cesar Chavez Stamp Introduced By Postal Service

A stamp honoring farm labor leader Cesar Chavez was introduced today in San Francisco, one of the ceremonies during Hispanic Heritage month. The United States Postal Service presented the stamp for the first time in Washington last month. The 37-cent stamp will be issued in April.

Richard Chavez says his brother would likely have felt honored by the stamp. Cesar Chavez died in 1993 at age 66. He is best known as the founder of the United Farm Workers of America, which he led for nearly three decades. He also worked as an advocate for nonviolent social change.
