Appaloosa Fire Held To 7 Acres

Firefighters have contained a grass and brush blaze in Calaveras County to 7 acres. Crews will be mopping up through the night along Appaloosa Way off Highway 4. The fire broke out at about 4 p.m. yesterday. No one was hurt. The fire was started by an illegal debris pile that got out of hand.

At the height of the blaze 2 air tankers and a helicopter were assisting 10 engine crews, 4 hand crews and 2 bulldozer operators. The fire burned along the side of Bear Mountain, below Fowler Peak between Angels Camp and Copperopolis.
