Another Voice Against TOT Cap

The Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce is the latest organization to voice its opposition to capping the amount of motel room tax that can be used to market the Mother Lode.

Pat Greenwell with the Government Affairs Committee says reducing what´s available from the so-called “Transient Occupancy Tax” would hurt everyone. He says businesses would suffer, and consequently the County would lose tax revenues, starting a downward economic spiral. The cap is one recommendation in a preliminary budget that will be considered by Tuolumne County Supervisors. Administrator Brent Wallace has declined to comment publicly.
