Identity Theft Hits Mother Lode

Identity theft reported in the Mother Lode. Two Sonora residents told Sheriffs Department investigators accounts had been opened in their names by persons unknown to them.

A Sonora woman told investigators someone opened a credit card in her name and charged more than $900. The Wal-Mart fraud department told local deputies the credit application was obtained on-line from another state.

In second case of identity theft, a Sonora man reports someone in San Francisco opened an account under his name.
