Tips To Keep Your Child Safe

In tears, the father of five-year-old Samantha Runnion urged parents Thursday to watch their children.

How can you keep this situation from happening to your children?

Local law enforcement officials offer tips to help keep children safe from abduction.

Parents are urged to teach children about the abduction problem in a non-threatening way so they are not fearful, but cautious and able to recognize when something isn´t right.

Inform your children of the rules pertaining to strangers and let them know that adults do not ask children for help finding a lost puppy or asking for directions.

If someone does try to grab them, teach the child to scream “this is not my parent” to attract attention.

And for parents, know where your child is at all times.

Police remind you, there is no waiting period required to report a missing child to law enforcement.

For much more information on keeping your children abduction safe, contact the local police or sheriffs department.
