Calaveras County Fire Crews Have Busy Afternoon

Calaveras County area fire crews are battling two fires Monday afternoon.

A two-acre wildfire along Conestoga trail, off Highway 4 in the Diamond XX area of Copperopolis, has required six CDF and Copperopolis fire engines, a dozer, a helicopter and two air tankers to knock down. The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. Monday. Sharon Torrance with CDF says no word on containment yet. She says air support has now been released.

Earlier in the afternoon, a brush fire broke out shortly before 3 p.m. in Rancho Calaveras off Baldwin Road and Highway 26. Early estimate by crews at the scene say the six-acre blaze burned near a number of homes, but firefighters got the fire handled without damage to any structures. No exact estimate on the total number of acres burned, according to CDF.
