Major Wreck Closes Highway 108 For The Day

Highway 108 will be closed until about 5:00 this evening near Yosemite Junction, where two big rigs collided head-on early this morning, killing one driver and severely injuring the other.

Highway patrol spokesperson Tom Wills says both rigs were working on a Cal Trans construction project in Twain Harte. Wills says 40-year-old Pamela Short of Sonora was driving a loaded truck eastbound, when it drifted into the westbound lane and struck the empty rig. The driver of that truck, a 30-year-old Merced man, was dead at the scene. Short suffered severe burns and was airlifted from the scene. A four acre grass fire touched off by the accident was quickly contained.

Traffic will be diverted around the area today, so expect a delay if you´ll be driving through there.
