UC Berkley Hosts Pro-Palestinian Conference

Students are gathering today at UC Berkeley to open a pro-Palestinian conference postponed after the September 11th terrorist attacks.

As many as 300 activists from around the country are expected.

Organizers say the recent escalation of conflicts between Israel and Palestinians makes the conference all the more topical.

Participants will attend a series of speeches, how-to workshops and panels that focus on pressuring companies doing business with Israel to divest a campaign modeled after the anti-apartheid movement of the 1980s.

Members of the Israel Action Committee plan a counter-event across the street from the conference. They plan to raise money for a number of charitable purposes, including aid to victims of the conflict.
