The chairman of a Senate committee investigating California´s major power wholesalers says he isn´t surprised by Enron memos that discuss devious ways of gouging the state´s energy market. The memos describe how energy traders manipulated California´s deregulated electricity market using sinister names like “Death Star.”
State Senator Joseph Dunn says the documents substantiate “what we have known for a long time.” He compares it to a jailhouse confession, and says the jig is up. Governor Davis and the state´s two U-S senators are asking the U-S attorney general to open a criminal investigation.
