Firefighters in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties handled some 14 vegetation fires over the weekend. Most were small spots in grass and brush. Causes ranged from roadside carelessness with cigarettes to escaped debris burn piles.
The largest fire was in Western Calaveras County along Highway 12, where 100 acres of grass and trees burned.
