Judge Halts Farm Water Suit

A Sacramento Superior Court judge has granted a motion from the state´s Farm Bureau and other agricultural groups to intervene in a lawsuit brought by environmental activists.

Current rules exempt farms from some water quality regulations until the end of the year. Environmentalists sued to put an immediate end to the discharge waivers that would result in substantial costs to individual farmers and the state.

The Farm Bureau says ending waivers now would also short-circuit a policy review being conducted by state agencies.
