Justice Department Approves Prop 54

The U.S. Justice Department has approved Proposition 54 for the October 7 ballot in counties that previously violated the Voting Rights Act.

Civil rights groups have argued that the measure should be placed on the March ballot to give voters more time to consider it.

The measure prohibits state and local governments from keeping track of race.
